Books for Prisoners is a non-profit, student organization at UCSD (University of California, San Diego) affiliated with Groundwork Bookstore. Our organization receives letters from inmates all over the country requesting books and resources. We send donated books (textbooks, novels, magazines, dictionaries, etc) directly to the inmates who write to us. In return they often send us artwork, stories and letters about their lives inside the prison system. Our goal is to help better educate inmates while they are incarcerated in the prison system.
Once a year, we hold an art show fundraiser to raise money for the postage of mailing books. We display the artwork, letters and stories sent to us in an effort to better educate the public about the condition of the prison system. We also showcase student art work side by side in hopes of drawing connection between the power of expression and individual human experience.

Call for art work:
We are currently seeking student artwork of any kind (photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, etc ) for display at our Prisoner Art Show. Art works do not need to be themed but we are certainly interested in issues of social justice. Additionally, if you would like to outright donate any of your work to our fundraiser we will be holding a silent-auction at the event and donated artworks will be sold in the auction.
Anyone who’s interested, please contact us as soon as you can. Please click HERE for the art work submission form, or email bfp.ucsd@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. Any and all contributions for either display or donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!
